Hair Transplant Results

Real Patients. Real Results.

Every result shown is Dr. Nagwani's own patient — operated personally at Calcutta Cosmo Aid. Drag the slider on each card to compare before and after.

All patients have given explicit written consent for educational use of their photographs. Results vary based on individual scalp condition, grade of baldness, donor density, and post-operative care.

The Basics

What is a Hair Transplant?

No medical jargon. No fear. Just the truth about what happens, why it works, and what it means for your life.

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure where healthy hair follicles are carefully moved from a donor area — usually the back and sides of your scalp, where hair is naturally resistant to DHT (the hormone that causes hair loss) — and implanted into the thinning or bald areas of your scalp.

These are your own natural, living hair follicles. There is no synthetic material. No foreign substance enters your body. The transplanted follicles grow exactly as they always have — they can be cut, oiled, washed, and styled for the rest of your life.

"Think of it like replanting a garden. We move strong, healthy roots from where they are abundant to where the soil still has the capacity to nourish them — and they flourish there, permanently."

The entire procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. You remain awake and comfortable throughout — no general anaesthesia risk. You return home the same day.

The most important word in hair transplant is permanence. Unlike topical treatments or medications that must be continued indefinitely, a well-performed hair transplant is a one-time procedure with lifetime results.

FUT vs FUE — Which is Right for You?

Both are gold-standard techniques. The right choice depends on your degree of hair loss, lifestyle, and scalp condition. Dr. Nagwani guides you to the optimal decision after a thorough examination — never before.

FUT

Strip Method

A thin strip of scalp is surgically removed from the donor area. The strip is dissected under magnification into individual follicular units, which are then carefully implanted into the recipient area.

3000–5500 grafts harvestable in a single session
Highest graft yield — best for advanced (Grade 4–7) baldness
More cost-effective per graft
No need to shave the entire donor area
Linear scar at donor site (concealed by surrounding hair)
Longer recovery: 10–14 days
iPreferred for patients who keep longer hairstyles
Ideal for: Grade 4–7 baldness · Large coverage · Budget-conscious patients

FUE

No Linear Scar

Individual follicular units are extracted one by one from the donor area using a precision micro-punch tool. Each follicle is then carefully implanted into the thinning or bald recipient area.

No linear scar — only tiny dot marks that heal invisibly
Faster healing — back to work in 3-5 days
Less post-operative discomfort
Ideal for those who prefer very short hairstyles
Slightly fewer grafts achievable per session
Donor area must be shaved before the procedure
iProcedure time: 4–8 hours depending on graft count
Ideal for: Grade 1–4 · Active professionals · Short hair preference

CCA's exclusive approach for advanced cases: For patients with Norwood Grade 5–7 baldness, Dr. Nagwani offers a combined FUT + FUE procedure in a single session — maximising graft count beyond what either method can achieve alone. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy is also recommended alongside transplant for superior graft survival and long-term density. Calcutta Cosmo Aid is the only clinic in Kolkata that customises this combination based on individual scalp assessment — not a fixed package.
Results Timeline

Why Does It Take Time to See Results?

Every patient asks this question. The answer is not failure — it is biology working exactly as it should. Understanding this timeline prevents unnecessary panic and builds realistic expectations.

1
Days 1–14

Surgery complete. Tiny scabs form over each graft site. Mild swelling for 3–5 days is normal. The transplanted follicles are settling in. Do not rub or pick the scalp.

2
Weeks 3–8

Shock loss occurs. Transplanted hair shafts fall out. This is completely normal — the follicle root is alive underground. Only the shaft sheds. Do not panic.

3
Months 3–6

New growth begins. Fine, thin hair sprouts from each follicle. Growth accelerates month by month. By Month 5–6, visible improvement is clearly noticeable.

4
Months 12–18

Full, final results. Hair has matured to natural thickness and density. This is your permanent hair — cut it, colour it, oil it. It grows for life.

We do not forget about you after your surgery. You will not walk this path alone. Post-operative follow-up consultations are built into your care plan at CCA. Nearly two decades of follow-up experience means we have seen every variation of the healing journey.

At CCA, no surgery is delegated to a junior doctor or technician. Dr. Nagwani designs your hairline himself. This is not standard practice in high-volume hair transplant centres — at CCA it is the only practice.

🎓

M.Ch. in Plastic Surgery — India's Highest

An M.Ch. (Magister Chirurgiae) in Plastic Surgery is the highest surgical specialisation available in India. Your hair transplant is performed with the same anatomical precision applied to complex reconstructive procedures — not by a cosmetology certificate holder.

📋

Customised Treatment — Never a Package

Your scalp health, donor density, rate of ongoing hair loss, medical history, and aesthetic goals are all unique to you. Dr. Nagwani assesses every variable before making any recommendation. You will never receive a one-size-fits-all package — only a plan designed for your specific scalp.

I became a plastic surgeon because I believe the human body deserves the most precise, respectful care possible. When you sit in my chair, I am thinking only about your outcome — not the clock, not the next patient. Your hair is your identity. I treat it with exactly that gravity.

FAQ

Questions Patients Always Ask

These are the real questions that reach Dr. Nagwani's desk every week — from patients across India. No question is too small.

Am I a good candidate for hair transplant?
+
Ideal candidates have stable hair loss, sufficient donor hair at the back and sides of the scalp, and are in good general health. Age, scalp laxity, donor density, and your grade of baldness are all assessed at consultation. Dr. Nagwani evaluates every case individually — there is no universal answer without examining your scalp.
Does the procedure hurt?
+
The injections of local anaesthesia may cause a brief sting. Once numb — which takes just a few minutes — patients feel pressure and movement, not pain. Most CCA patients watch a film, listen to music, or fall asleep during the procedure. Mild post-operative soreness for 2–3 days is normal and managed with prescribed painkillers.
How many grafts will I need?
+
Graft count depends on your Norwood or Ludwig grade, donor density, area to be covered, and desired density. Dr. Nagwani never gives a graft count without examining you — those numbers would be medically meaningless. A proper count requires a hands-on scalp assessment at consultation.
The transplanted hair fell out after surgery — is this normal?
+
Yes — completely normal. Between weeks 3 and 8, transplanted hair shafts fall out ("shock loss"). The hair shaft falls, but the follicle root beneath the scalp is alive and intact. By months 3–5, new hair growth begins from these surviving roots. Shock loss is not failure — it is part of the biological healing cycle.
What is the cost of hair transplant at Calcutta Cosmo Aid?
+
Cost is determined by grafts required, which cannot be known until Dr. Nagwani examines your scalp. After consultation, you receive a clear, written estimate before any commitment is asked. CCA does not quote prices without examining the patient — any clinic that does is giving you a number with no medical basis.
Can women get hair transplants?
+
Yes. Female pattern hair loss (Ludwig classification) is a well-recognised medical condition. Women can be candidates when the cause is androgenic alopecia with a stable, dense donor area. A thorough hormonal evaluation, scalp assessment, and blood work are performed before any surgical recommendation is made.
Is PRP therapy necessary alongside hair transplant?
+
Not mandatory — but strongly recommended, particularly for higher grades of baldness. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) uses growth factors from your own blood to nourish transplanted follicles, improving graft survival and long-term density. Dr. Nagwani's experience consistently shows superior outcomes when PRP is combined with the procedure.
How long do the results last?
+
Transplanted hair is biologically permanent. The follicles harvested from the donor zone are DHT-resistant — they do not undergo the miniaturisation that causes native hair to thin. Once transplanted, they retain this property and continue growing for life. With proper scalp care, results are expected to be permanent.
When can I return to work and normal activity?
+
Office and desk work: 3–5 days. Physically demanding or outdoor work: 10–14 days. For the first 4 weeks, avoid direct sun on the scalp, swimming, strenuous exercise, and dusty environments. Dr. Nagwani provides a personalised post-operative instruction sheet with specific timelines for each activity type.
I am from outside Kolkata. Can I still come for treatment?
+
Absolutely. CCA regularly treats patients from Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Odisha, Tripura, and other states. We offer WhatsApp video consultations before you travel. Accommodation guidance for outstation patients is available on request. The surgery is a day procedure — most outstation patients travel for 2–3 days total.
What medications should I stop before surgery?
+
As a general guide: blood thinners (aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel), certain supplements (fish oil, Vitamin E), and topical minoxidil should typically be paused 5–7 days before surgery. Dr. Nagwani will provide a personalised pre-operative checklist tailored to your specific medications. Never stop any prescribed medication without medical guidance.
What is the difference between FUT and FUE — in simple terms?
+
FUT takes a strip of skin from the back of the head to harvest thousands of follicles at once — more grafts, more coverage, one thin scar hidden under the hair. FUE extracts follicles one by one using a tiny punch tool — no linear scar, faster healing, ideal for short hair. Both produce the same natural, permanent results — the difference is in extraction method, recovery, and what suits your lifestyle best.
What makes CCA different from other clinics in Kolkata?
+
Three genuinely rare things: (1) Dr. Nagwani holds an M.Ch. in Plastic Surgery and performs every procedure himself — most large clinics use technicians. (2) Every treatment plan is completely individualised — no fixed packages. (3) CCA is the only Kolkata clinic offering the combined FUT+FUE approach for Norwood Grade 5–7, maximising graft count in a single session.
Is hair transplant safe? What are the risks?
+
Hair transplant has an excellent safety profile when performed by a trained specialist. Risks — infection, poor graft survival, unnatural hairline — are significantly reduced when the surgeon holds an M.Ch. and operates personally, as at CCA. Dr. Nagwani discusses all risks and how they are mitigated during your consultation. Informed consent is non-negotiable at our clinic.

The Story

History of Hair Transplant

From a burn ward in Japan to the clinics of Kolkata — how 85 years of science gave millions of people their confidence back.

1939

Born in Japan — For Burn Patients

Dr. Shoji Okuda first used small punch grafts to restore eyebrows, eyelashes, and moustaches for burn victims in Japan. Nobody imagined this technique would one day restore the hair of millions worldwide.

1952

New York Unlocks the Science

Dr. Norman Orentreich in New York proves that follicles from the back and sides of the scalp retain their DHT-resistance when moved anywhere on the head. The follicle keeps its identity no matter where you transplant it — this principle underpins every hair transplant performed today.

1980s

Strip Harvesting — FUT is Born

Surgeons develop the strip method (Follicular Unit Transplantation), allowing 3000–5000 grafts in a single session. Hair transplant becomes viable for significant baldness for the first time. The procedure enters the mainstream across America and Europe.

1990s

India Gets Its First Clinics

Hair transplant arrives quietly in Delhi and Mumbai — initially accessible only to the affluent. Awareness outside metro cities is near zero. The procedure carries a stigma; patients do not speak openly about it.

2002

FUE Changes Everything

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is introduced — individual follicles extracted one by one using a micro-punch tool, leaving no linear scar. Recovery becomes faster. The procedure opens to a far wider audience.

Amid 2005 - 2010

Calcutta Cosmo Aid is Established

Dr. Anand Kumar Nagwani — trained at IPGME&R with an M.Ch. in Plastic Surgery — establishes Calcutta Cosmo Aid in Bhowanipur. For the first time, Kolkata has a highest-qualification specialist performing hair transplants locally. Patients no longer need to travel to Delhi or Mumbai.CCA · Bhowanipur, Kolkata

2010+

Bollywood Makes It Normal

High-profile Indian celebrities begin openly acknowledging their hair transplants. The taboo dissolves rapidly. Millions of Indian men — and women — realise hair loss is a medical condition, not a personal failing, and that a permanent solution exists.
